Little Dip Freshwater Lakes

Little Dip Freshwater Lakes

A string of colourful freshwater lakes hidden among the towering dunes of Little Dip, south of Robe.

Behind the great mobile dunes of Little Dip Conservation Park lies a chain of small freshwater and salt lakes, some tinged pink or green by algae and mineral content. Reached by sandy tracks and walking trails, they feel a world away from the nearby coast.

The lakes are an important refuge for waterbirds and frogs, and the surrounding heath bursts into wildflowers in spring. Four-wheel-drive tracks and walking routes thread between the dunes, the wetlands and the wild ocean beaches beyond.

For walkers and naturalists, the freshwater lakes are one of the quiet highlights of the Robe coast, rewarding those willing to venture beyond the main beaches.
