A vast Ramsar-listed wetland system south-west of Naracoorte, one of the most important waterbird breeding sites in southern Australia.
Where the birds gather
Bool Lagoon and the adjoining Hacks Lagoon form one of the largest and most diverse freshwater wetland systems in southern Australia, listed under the Ramsar Convention for its international importance. In a good season tens of thousands of waterbirds — ibis, brolgas, magpie geese and rare migratory waders — gather here to breed. Boardwalks, bird hides and walking trails let you explore the reedbeds and open water on foot.
