A Ramsar-listed coastal wetland whose crystal-clear freshwater springs and the deep "Chasm" draw snorkellers and divers from around the world.
Diving into clear water
Piccaninnie Ponds is a wetland of international importance where groundwater wells up through limestone into water of astonishing clarity — visibility can exceed 40 metres. Snorkellers drift over the First Pond and the Turkish Bath, while certified cave divers descend into the Chasm, a sheer underwater shaft plunging beyond 100 metres. Access is by permit through the park, and boardwalks let non-divers enjoy the wetland too.
