Tantanoola Tiger Hotel

A characterful country pub built around the legend of the Tantanoola Tiger, between Millicent and Mount Gambier.

The Tantanoola Tiger Hotel takes its name from one of South Australia's most enduring tall tales: the mysterious beast said to have stalked the district in the 1890s, finally shot and revealed to be an escaped Assyrian wolf. The taxidermied animal is still on display behind the bar.

The pub itself is a friendly roadside stop on the highway, serving hearty country meals and cold beer to travellers crossing the coastal plain. Its walls are hung with photos and clippings recounting the tiger legend and local history.

Close to the Tantanoola Caves, it makes an easy lunch stop with a generous helping of Limestone Coast folklore.
