Aquifer Tour
A glass-panelled lift descends the historic Blue Lake pump station to a viewing platform at the water's edge.
Into the crater
The Aquifer Tour takes visitors down into the Blue Lake crater itself, descending through the 1880s pump station via a glass-panelled lift to a platform right at the water's edge. Guides explain the geology of the maar volcano, the workings of the historic waterworks and the science behind the lake's famous summer colour change.
It is the only way to get close to the surface of Mount Gambier's drinking-water lake, and gives a perspective on the crater that the rim lookouts cannot match.
