A 17-metre fibreglass lobster has greeted travellers at Kingston SE for decades. Larry is more than kitsch; he's a beloved landmark of the northern Limestone Coast.
A giant by the highway
Approaching Kingston SE from the north, you can't miss him: Larry, a towering fibreglass rock lobster standing guard by the highway since the late 1970s. At around 17 metres tall, he is one of Australia's best-loved big things.
More than kitsch
Larry is a wink at the region's real industry, the rock lobster fishery that works the cold, rich waters off this coast. The boats still go out from Kingston and nearby ports, and a fresh crayfish remains one of the great Limestone Coast indulgences.
