Brand's Laira Coonawarra

Brand's Laira Coonawarra

A historic Coonawarra label with some of the district's oldest vines, anchoring the northern terra rossa.

Brand's Laira traces its roots to 1893, when Scottish migrant John Riddoch's original vineyards were established, and some of the gnarled old Shiraz vines on the property are among the oldest in the region. The Brand family bought the Laira block in 1950 and built a label synonymous with classic Coonawarra reds.

The cellar door pours a broad range, from the old-vine Stentiford's Shiraz to single-vineyard Cabernets that showcase the terra rossa over limestone. Tastings here come with a strong sense of the district's deep history.

It is one of the heritage names that helped put Coonawarra on the map, and a fine stop for those who like their wine with a side of provenance.
