Leconfield Coonawarra
A respected family winery at the northern end of the Coonawarra strip, known for structured Cabernet and a warm cellar door.
Founded by industry pioneer Sydney Hamilton in 1974, when he was already in his eighties, Leconfield sits on the prized terra rossa soils near the top of the Coonawarra. The estate has stayed in the Hamilton family and built a reputation for age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon alongside Shiraz, Merlot and a crisp Riesling.
The cellar door is relaxed and unpretentious, the kind of place where you can talk vintages without ceremony. Tastings run through the current releases and often a museum pour or two, with the flagship Cabernet the clear star.
It makes an easy first or last stop on a Coonawarra wine day, paired with a stroll among the surrounding vines on the famous red strip.
