Bowen Estate

A small, fiercely independent Coonawarra estate where the Bowen family has made benchmark reds since 1972.

Doug Bowen planted his first vines on the terra rossa in 1972, and Bowen Estate has remained one of Coonawarra's most quietly admired boutique producers ever since. Now run by daughter Emma, the estate crafts a tight range built around Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz from estate-grown fruit.

The cellar door is small and personal, often staffed by family, and tastings come with the kind of candid commentary you only get from people who farm the dirt themselves. The wines are restrained, structured and built to age.

For visitors who want to feel the human scale of Coonawarra rather than its corporate side, Bowen is essential.
