Kilsby Sinkhole

One of the world's premier freshwater dive sites, a crystal-clear limestone sinkhole on private farmland near Mount Gambier.

A diver's sinkhole

Kilsby Sinkhole, on a working farm south of Mount Gambier, is internationally renowned among technical and recreational divers for its astonishing water clarity, with visibility that can exceed 40 metres. Sunlight streams through the open sinkhole into the flooded limestone chamber, creating dramatic light beams prized by underwater photographers.

The site is privately managed and access for diving and snorkelling is by booking only, with sessions run for certified divers and guided snorkel groups. It is one of several flooded sinkholes that have made the Mount Gambier district a world capital of cave and sinkhole diving.
