Beacon Hill Lookout

A coastal lookout above Robe crowned by an old navigation beacon, with sweeping views over Guichen Bay.

Beacon Hill rises above the township of Robe, topped by a striking lattice navigation beacon that has guided ships into Guichen Bay for generations. A short drive or walk brings you to the lookout, one of the best vantage points on this stretch of coast.

From the top the view takes in the curve of the bay, the town's old harbour, the obelisk on the far headland and the long sweep of beaches running north. It is a favourite spot for sunset and for getting your bearings on arrival.

Interpretive signage explains Robe's maritime history as a once-thriving port, when wool and wheat were shipped out and thousands of Chinese miners landed here on their way to the Victorian goldfields.
