Admella Discovery Trail
A coastal heritage trail commemorating the 1859 wreck of the SS Admella, one of Australia's worst maritime disasters.
A coast of shipwrecks
The Admella Discovery Trail follows the coast between Port MacDonnell and Carpenter Rocks, marking the story of the SS Admella, which struck a reef in 1859 with the loss of around 89 lives during a harrowing eight-day rescue. Interpretive signs at lookouts along the route recount the disaster and the wider history of wrecks on this exposed limestone coast.
The drive links windswept beaches, fishing spots and dramatic clifftop viewpoints, making it both a moving memorial and a scenic exploration of the region's wild southern shore.
